The Drawbacks Of Being Unhealthy

Are you the type who gets up in the morning feeling no enthusiasm at all to start the day right? Do you go through your daily activities in the office like a robot, performing your tasks in a routine manner that your office mates are calling you Robocop behind your back? When the bell rings signifying the end of the working day, do you breathe a sigh of relief and hurry back to your home in order to dive straight into the bed.

The situations mentioned above are the usual things an unhealthy person can experience over a period of time. Do you like the sound of it? Are you willing to go through this road for the rest of your life?

In comparison, a person who is functioning in an optimal manner will face the new day with enthusiasm the moment sunlight hits his cozy bedroom. He will feel excited to begin his activities that he will even sing a pop song or whistle a familiar tune along the way. In addition, he will find time to have a round of drink with his friends before driving home to his waiting bed. Those who are intellectually stimulated may even stop by a library to borrow a book or two in order to read before sleeping at night.

If you are a sane person, you can see the huge difference between someone who is unhealthy versus someone who is not. It is up to you to make the conscious decision to improve yourself or else you will have the disadvantages that a sickly person might go through. Read the succeeding paragraphs to know what they are.

The first disadvantage is it makes you look older than your actual chronological age. It may sound shallow but it is still the truth. This premise applies in the modern society where first impressions really matter, whether you like it or not. How you look counts as much as the data encoded in your resume. If you look pale and stick thin or if you have a blotchy skin and fat body, you might not be idealized as a good employee. This is due to the fact that bosses or human resource officers may think that if you cannot take good care of yourself, then you might also not learn how to take care of your work. They will remedy this problem by hiring someone more pleasant.

Second, you will have a higher chance of getting the dreaded lifestyle diseases like diabetes mellitus, hypertensive urgency and even cancer. A person does not get sick in a snap of a finger. It takes days, weeks and most of the time, years of physical abuse on the body to show its effects. If you are the type who gorges on fatty, salty or excessively sweet food, you are in a high risk group. Your chances will double if you do not get any physical workout like a thirty-minute cardiovascular exercise at least three times a week.

Add to that the secret vices like too much beer drinking and cigarette smoking and you should expect to have a shorter lifespan. You must be crazy to think that all these sounds okay because they really are not.

Third, an unhealthy state will make you grouchy. You will always come up with excuses not to go to the office. This will reflect badly on your work performance and might cause you to lose your job. If you want to avert this disaster, the take the first step to a healthier you by listening to the advice of your doctor.

All You Need to Know about Cold Sores

Do you wonder why small blisters pop out in your lips and around your mouth? Most probably, you are a host of one type of virus that can cause the blisters or cold sores to appear. Read on and find out what this disease is as well as its treatment and prevention.

Cold sores or fever blisters are small blisters that pop out at the lips or around the mouth. The skin with blisters usually becomes swollen, red and sore. Blisters start to break open few days after they developed, release transparent fluid, and scab few more days later. The disease begins to heal after the maximum period of two weeks.

The virus that causes cold sores is herpes simplex virus which has two types: HSV-1 and HSV-2. This type of virus is also responsible for the development of genital herpes in some people.

Herpes simplex virus can enter the body when there is a break in the skin or inside the mouth. The virus can be quickly transmitted to another person by kissing, using the utensils, and touching the saliva of an infected person.

Once the viruses find their way inside the body, they quickly develop the first symptoms which include pain on the lips and mouth, fever, sore throat, and swollen glands at various parts of the body. Few days after the blisters develop, they break open, release fluid, scab days later, and are healed after two maximum weeks.

cold sore treatment are not difficult to be determined by any doctor. Most of the time, doctors ask few questions to find out how the virus got into the body. Aside from this simple diagnostic procedure, no complex diagnostic tests will be conducted.

Two weeks is a long time before cold sores disappears. Moreover, the disease brings with it symptoms that inflict pain and embarrass the infected person. To eliminate these embarrassing and painful symptoms, the infected person can avail of the treatments which include skin creams, ointments and pills. The treatments can heal the disease two days faster.

Despite the treatments for cold sores, the virus that causes it stays in the body forever. In other words, cold sores brought by herpes simplex virus cannot be completely healed. Treatments can only reduce the number of sores but cannot prevent the virus from developing more sores.

Hence, preventive measures must be taken for those who are virus-free. Refraining from coming in contact with an infected person and using the same things he uses are good preventive measures. Moreover, improving the immune system by having nutritious foods in every meal is also effective because the virus cannot develop inside the body where there are agents to combat it.

Flu Season – The Most Miserable Time Of The Year!

INTRODUCTION: Flu (influenza) season means the months of the year when many people have it and it’s easy to catch. Outbreaks normally begin suddenly and occur mostly in the late fall and winter. It is a respiratory infection caused by a number of different viruses. Vaccines are usually administered in the fall, before flu season begins and are available as a shot or nasal mist.

Shots are most important for: persons 65 or older, nursing home patients, children over 6 months old, people with health problems such as asthma or with long-term diseases, such as HIV or heart disease, children or teen-agers who must often take aspirin, people who are often around older persons or those with health problems. Symptoms may be mild or severe – and if they’re mild can become severe without warning.

SYMPTOMS: If you get infected by the virus, you will usually have symptoms 1 to 4 days later. Signs of the flu may include: fever, chills, headache, muscle ache, dizziness, loss of appetite, tiredness, cough, sore throat, runny nose, nausea and vomiting, weakness, ear pain, diarrhea. They come on quickly and are worse than those of the common cold however; having these symptoms does not necessarily mean that you have the flu. Many different infections, including the common cold, can have similar symptoms. It is very difficult to distinguish the flu from other infections on the basis of these signs alone.

If you develop flu-like signs and are concerned about your illness, especially if you are at elevated risk for complications, you should consult your MD. Based on your signs, your MD can usually tell if you have the Flu, especially during times when a lot of it is going around. After 5 days, fever and other symptoms have usually disappeared, but a cough and weakness may continue for a while. All symptoms are usually gone within a week or two.

VACCINES: Two types of flu vaccines are available in the United States: The “flu shot” – an in-activated vaccine (containing dead virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm OR the nasal-spray – a vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not produce influenza (sometimes called LAIV for “live attenuated influenza vaccine” or FluMist). On October 24, 2007 CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended expanding the use of the nasal Flu vaccine LAIV (FluMist) to include healthy children ages 2-4 years old without a history of asthma or recurrent wheezing.

Anyone who’s at risk of getting really sick needs to get a flu shot, or vaccine. It’s good for kids who are around older people and younger kids (like little brothers and sisters) to get the vaccine also. If you get the vaccine, or shot, it will protect you from getting a bad case of the flu. Whichever one you get, you need to get a new vaccine every year because the flu virus changes every year and the vaccine is created to fight the viruses that are going to be a problem that year.

The flu vaccine is usually offered between September and mid-November, although it may be given at other times of the year. Because it prevents infection from only a few of the viruses floating around that can cause flu-like symptoms, it is not a guaranteed protection against getting sick. Call your doctor or local public health department about availability in your area.

TREATMENTS: Many people treat their influenza by simply Resting in bed, Drinking plenty of liquids, Taking over-the-counter medicine such as aspirin or acetaminophen (Tylenol). You may develop complications if you get a bacterial infection, which can cause pneumonia in your weakened lungs. Treatment is often not necessary for children, but if the illness is recognized early and the patient is at risk of developing a severe case, it can and should be started. Treatment will only help however; If started early and only if the infection is actually influenza. Treatment includes bed rest and plenty of fluids; anti-viral medication may also be prescribed.

CONCLUSION: Influenza usually starts suddenly and may include the following symptoms: Fever (usually high), Headache, Tiredness (can be extreme), Cough, Sore throat, Runny or stuffy nose, Body aches, Diarrhea and vomiting (more common among children than adults). A doctor’s exam may be needed to tell whether you have developed the flu or a complication. There are tests that can determine if you have influenza as long as you are tested within the first 2 or 3 days of illness.

In some people, the infection can cause serious complications, including bacterial pneumonia, dehydration, and worsening of chronic medical conditions, such as congestive heart failure, asthma or diabetes. The flu can produce mild to severe illness and at times may lead to death.

Although most healthy people recover from the flu without complications, some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease), are at high risk for serious complications. The virus usually spreads from person to person in respiratory droplets when people who are infected cough or sneeze. People occasionally may become infected by touching something with the virus on it and then touching their mouth, nose or eyes. The single best way to protect yourself and others against influenza is to get a vaccination each year.

The flu vaccination is approved for use in those older than 6 months, including healthy people and people with chronic medical problems (such as asthma, diabetes, or heart disease). October or November is the best time to get vaccinated, but getting vaccinated in December or even later may still be beneficial since most influenza activity occurs in January or later in most years.

The Perks Of Being Healthy

When asked what the most important concern of many people is today, a majority would answer health with conviction. Since stressors are found left and right, more and more are getting sick because they do not know how to deal with it properly. This results to absences at the office and even hospitalization.

In order to promote a healthy lifestyle, an increasing number of entrepreneurs put up restaurants serving healthy food like organic and vegetarian dishes, fitness clubs with tailor made programs for their customers and supplementary items like tablets and capsules in the drugstore.

The next few paragraphs will explain to you the advantages that a healthy individual can gain if he is sticking to a balanced diet, maintaining a regular exercise program, and visiting the physician regularly. Read on and be enlightened.

The first advantage when you are healthy is that you will have a better work performance. This would be possible because you are at the top of your game. You can accomplish more things at a faster rate compared to your colleagues who are living the sedentary lifestyle. You will have more energy to last you throughout the day. You will also be alert during business transactions and board meetings that your superiors will definitely see you like an Energizer bunny.

This go-getter attitude will definitely make you stand out from the rest and heighten your chance of getting a raise, and maybe even a promotion. This is surely one temptation that you should keep in mind if you are deciding to strive for a healthier status.

Second, you will avoid getting a lot of lifestyle diseases like diabetes mellitus and hypertensive cardiovascular disease. It is common knowledge that most diseases are a result of poor or wrong nutritional intake such as excessive fat, cholesterol and sugar in the diet. Add to that the almost zero level of physical activities those employees, especially those who are stuck in their office cubicles, are having.

Third, you will live longer. Longevity is something that a lot of people aspire for. However, not everyone is willing to do what it takes to reach the ripe old age of 100. If you are fit and healthy, you can do a lot of things. You can travel without the help of a wheelchair or a nurse. You are also free to do a lot of things, like visiting the zoo, taking your grandkids out for a trip on the museum, doing consultation work that is related to your previously-held job and so on.

Lastly, you will promote a harmonious atmosphere with the people in your life if you are healthy. You also have the luxury of making a crucial decision without resorting to tantrums or drama king moments because you are at peace with yourself. Moreover, get-togethers with your superiors and subordinates will be a walk in the park. In contrast, the unhealthy individuals will look like losers because they are always grouchy due to some imaginary suffering.

The Downside Of Being Unhealthy

Are you the type who gets up in the morning feeling no enthusiasm at all to start the day right? Do you go through your daily activities in the office like a robot, performing your tasks in a routine manner that your office mates are calling you Robocop behind your back? When the bell rings signifying the end of the working day, do you breathe a sigh of relief and hurry back to your home in order to dive straight into the bed.

If you answered yes to all the questions and you have been doing all these for a long time, it means that you are not in a healthy state. Are you sure you want to continue treading this path?

In contrast, a healthy individual sees the brand new day as something worth looking forward to. He will feel passion and excitement the moment he gets out of bed. Because of this, he may whistle a happy tune or sing a popular song as he goes to the shower and drive his way to the office. He will be pumped up to meet the challenging tasks that lie ahead. During break time at the office, he can hop from one table to the other and socialize with his friends. When the day ends, he will still have energy left to do other chores like grocery shopping or playing football at the field. The brainy ones can buy a paperback or two at a bookstore.

Can you see the difference between someone who is unhealthy versus someone who is in the pink of health? You must make the conscious decision to better yourself or else you will have the drawbacks that a sickly person might experience. Read the next few paragraphs to know what they are.

First, you will look older. Instead of looking like a fresh 23-year old lady, you will come across as a mature 35 year old woman. If you are a guy, you will look 15 years old than your actual age which is 30 years old. If you think this is a shallow reason for striving to be healthy, remember that that were many studies that have been conducted showing the importance of first impressions. If you do not have a flattering face and figure, the human resource officer might take it as a sign that you are neglecting yourself. If you are neglecting yourself, then how can they trust you with an important position at the office because you might also forget to give it importance? They will then decide to give the job to a more pleasant-looking applicant.

Second, being unhealthy will increase your risk of acquiring horrible lifestyle diseases like diabetes mellitus, hypertensive urgency and even cancer. Bear in mind that the typical person does not get sick in just a few minutes. Most of the time it takes days, weeks and even years of physical abuse on the body to show its ill effects. Recall if you were the type who consumes fatty, salty or excessively sweet food. If you answered yes, then you are classified under a high risk group. Your likelihood of dying young will increase if you do not get any physical workout like a thirty-minute cardiovascular exercise at least three times a week.

Then there is also the subject of vices like too much beer drinking and cigarette smoking. If you are always committing these mistakes, expect liver cirrhosis and lung cancer. Does that sound nice?

Lastly, if you are sickly you will have grouchy disposition since you are always complaining of some minor aches and pains brought about by your different illness. Your officemates will be annoyed in dealing with you and they might raise this issue to your boss, causing you to lose your job if you do not strive to get better. In a time where there is the threat of layoffs, you must be careful to hold on to your job.

The Downside Of Being Unhealthy

When the morning comes, do you wake up with a bored outlook in life? At the office, instead of dividing your time chatting with your coworkers and doing your tasks, do you just sit idly in your cubicle doing your assignment in a monotonous manner? Do you hear people whispering Robocop wannabe behind your back? As soon as the bell rings, is getting home straight to your plush bed all you could think about so that another day is over and done with?

If you answered in the affirmative to all the queries raised in the aforementioned paragraph and you have been doing all these for some time already, it could only mean that you are not in the pink of health and that you need to seek medical treatment.

Do you see what difference a good health can make in the life of an individual? Being healthy is way better than being sickly. Therefore, it is vital that you strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating a balanced diet, having regular exercise and visiting your attending physician. Read the succeeding paragraphs to know the drawbacks of being unhealthy.

First, you will look older than your actual chronological age. This may sound like a shallow reason, but in a world where first impressions really matter, you might want to think about this more conscientiously. It is not flattering and you might lose a job offer along the way. You may ask how that is possible. Well, if you give people the wrong impression that you are not taking care of yourself, they might assume that you also do not know how to take care of your clients or the needs of your client. They will then decide to look for a better partner with a more pleasing personality.

Second, you will have a higher chance of getting the dreaded lifestyle diseases like diabetes mellitus, hypertensive urgency and even cancer. A person does not get sick in a snap of a finger. It takes days, weeks and most of the time, years of physical abuse on the body to show its effects. If you want to avert this disaster, the take the first step to a healthier you by listening to the advice of your doctor.
