Chronic Disease ” Not so easy to Diagnose
Depressing, isnt it? You feel fatigued, and ache all over. These symptoms are difficult to diagnose with any form of measurement, and can be blamed on depression. Is it all in your head, or is there some other cause for your issues?
It is difficult to diagnose many chronic conditions. The symptoms cannot be measured, and tests do not exist that show the specific cause. Many tests will point in the right direction, showing a rise in the natural infection fighting response, but cannot tell us why.
You would think that with the knowledge base available, and the advanced testing capabilities that our medical community could more easily diagnose and treat these conditions that plague our population. It would seem, too, that we should have more effective treatments that actually treat the cause.
Since so many of the autoimmune conditions we face these days have similar symptoms there is often a trail and error diagnosing process, eliminating possible causes. MS, for example, is difficult to diagnose, and is often seen in the progression of symptoms. There is no clear answer as to the cause of MS. Treatment is also variable, and usually manages the symptoms instead of improving the state of health.
Other autoimmune diseases present themselves with similar symptoms and are often diagnosed through the elimination of other possible conditions rather than proof of the final diagnosis. These ailments include fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, lupus, and other autoimmune or neurodegenerative diseases. Even rheumatoid arthritis falls in this classification.
The list of chronic health issues is not complete without adding Lyme disease to the list. This parasitic condition is caused by tick transmitted borrelia bacteria. Many do not even know they have been infected, diagnosis is difficult, and treatment may not be effective.
Now we know the challenges that are faced in diagnosing chronic autoimmune disorders. Once the diagnosis is decided the treatment may not be clear. Our traditional treatment using antibiotics has been widely overused, and now we face resistant pathogens.
