Definition Of Liposuction
Liposuction is taking away excess body fat by suction with specialized surgical equipment. It is typically performed by a plastic surgeon. It can be best described as a technique for removing fat from specific areas of the body.
This can be accomplished on the abdomen, thighs, chin, flanks, the upper area of the knees, the neck, and the underarms. Just about any area that has fat beneath the skin can be treated with liposuction.
With the removal of unwanted body fat, a person’s appearance improves. Breasts, buttocks, abdomen, and the face are the usual places where liposuction is done.
Known also as suction lipectomy, lipoplasty or liposculpture, liposuction has become an easy way to keep a person’s youthful looks. It can be used by almost anyone, who has problems with hypodermic fat. The No. 1 reason why people try liposuction is for cosmetic purposes. They want to get rid of “love handles”, ugly fat bulges or an abnormal chin line.
Liposuction surgery can be carried out on patients of any age. But the best results are seen in patients whose skin has not lost its elasticity. The younger the skin, the better the result.
A note of caution: liposuction won’t correct generalized obesity. People mistakenly think they get leaner after the operation. This isn’t the case though it assists people with certain obesity problems or people who have been living on calorie-restricted diets for ages. In most cases, liposuction just takes away unwanted fat from specific areas of the body. It will not make you thinner.
