External and Internal Rhinoplasty Procedures
Many people can quickly associate a rhinoplasty procedure with nose surgery, however, only a handful of people actually know the various rhinoplasty procedures which are available and what each respective one entails.
In this paragraph, we will outline the steps in obtaining a rhinoplasty. The first step is to make an appointment with a local rhinoplasty specialist. At your consultation appointment, your doctor will perform an examination and talk to you about your specific goals. If everything seems in order, you will be scheduled to receive the procedure. When the operation day arrives, you will be transported to the operating room where you will receive anesthesia. After you are given local anesthesia, the operation site might be treated with additional types, depending on the complexity of the operation and your medical background as a patient. Special medications may also be given to hinder blood flow near your nose during the procedure.
There are two identifiable types of rhinoplasty procedures: external and internal. Each procedure has its individual perks and cons, which will be explained to the patient in detail during their consultation. Both procedures can be used to garner the same results. The final outcome of the surgery, regardless of what specific technique is employed, can depend on a slew of factors, among them the skill of the rhinoplasty surgeon and the particular expectations of the patient.
During the external procedure, the doctor makes an incision on the outside of the nose. To keep the scar out of site, the surgeon will usually make an incision where the nose meets the face. This way, the scar is hidden in a crease. Once the surgeon has made his or her way inside, the necessary modifications can get underway. Some variations of this procedure call for different incision sites. These variations typically allow for more adjustment.
The internal procedure requires an incision within the inside of the nose. Patients who receive the internal surgery usually need very little work done. Since space and maneuvering potential is very limited, only a certain amount of work can be accomplished. Scar visibility is essentially eliminated with this procedure, which poses a big advantage to many patients. After the surgeon has finished making the incision, he or she will get to work sculpting the new shape of the nose.
Most surgeons find photographs and other reference material extremely helpful in guiding their work during the procedure. The majority of surgeons are fortunately meticulous and wrap up the procedure having done exactly as they discussed with the patient. Once the surgeon has finished his work, he will place small sutures on the incision site and place a splint on your nose. The splint is usually custom fitted to your nose.
You will return to your surgeon’s office for a follow-up visit wherein this splint will be removed. Don’t expect to see your new nose just yet. Swelling and discoloration will obscure any of the results of the operation. However, in a few weeks, you will be greeted with your new nose. Be patient and follow your surgeon’s instructions during the recovery period. You will be happy that you did.
