Is Organic Food Better? Absolutely! (And This Is Why)

Once in a while people ask me, sniffily or out of sincere concern, “is organic food better?”. I can truly and without a doubt say “yes” to that!

Usually though, the inquirer is not satisfied with such short an answer, he or she wants facts! Well, I’m pleased to oblige, let’s look at some good reasons to why “yes” is the right answer indeed!

Nutrients There are plenty of studies showing that fuits and vegetables that are grown organically contain more nutrients. The reason for this is likely to be the fact that these vegetables grow more slowly, and consequently can accumulate and compound more of various kinds of nutrients. These include antioxidants as well as vitamins and phytonutrients.

Less chemicals Bugs, micro organisms and fungi are among the pests that farmers need to protect their crops from. In conventional farming this is achieved through the use of strong chemicals, designed to harm or kill the targeted pests. However, these chemicals also affect other organisms, including you and me. Studies cannot foresee all the impact they can have since they all mix in the body, most likely creating synergi effects we can only guess about. if we eat organic food we at least cut out some of these chemicals from our diet.

Better taste This is of course a subjective assumption, but most people seem to find that vegetables grown organically do taste better. I believe the reason for this is the same as for the fact that they contain more nutrients; the vegetables have grown more slowly and thus been able to accumulate more of the substances giving them their delicious taste.

The environment The environmental issue is a strong contributive reason that organic food is better. Nevertheless, I will not dig deeper into that issue here in this article, but save that for another article to look forward to!

Conclusion I do hope that by now you are convinced that the answer to “is organic food better?” is a wholehearted YES! For your health, for the environment and for quality of life!
