Lasik Eye Surgery-check Out Your Options
For many people wanting to correct vision problems Lasik eye surgery is a viable option. Once the surgery has been performed most people no longer need to wear glasses or contact lenses.
Lasik eye surgery as we know today was first developed in the 1950s, and like any science since that time there have been numerous developments improving the technology. Today many forms of Lasik treatment are performed, your Lasik eye doctor will be able to recommend which one is suitable for you.
About the procedure: before the laser goes against the eye a preliminary examination of the surface is mapped. This gives the surgeon a plan to work with during it the actual procedure.
The surgery is usually done in a specialist Lasik eye center. As the patient you will actually be conscious and wide awake. Before the procedure starts antibiotics and anaesthetic eye drops will be placed against the eye surface, numbing it. Put simply, the process is done in three steps. Firstly a flap is cut on the corneal surface. Then the adjustment is made to the cornea depending on what needs to be corrected. Then the flap will be replaced down against the corneal surface. On average, the treatment for each eye will take about 12 to 15 minutes. However the laser will only be used for periods of 30 seconds to 90 seconds during this time.
After the procedure has been finished the patient is left to rest for about 15 to 20 minutes. At this time their eye or eyes will be re-examined by the Lasik eye doctor. If everything is in order the patient is allowed to go home. The next day the patient returns to the Lasik eye surgery and has the all important second eye examination. Most people are back to work within a few days of the surgery. The only thing they have to do is be a little careful and put a few eye drops in their eyes daily for a couple of weeks.
Your eyes continue to develop until at least 20 years of age and from the age of about 45, your eyes naturally begin to have trouble focusing. So the recommended age for most people for Lasik eye surgery is between the ages of 20 and 45.
Even if you have Lasik eye surgery it is likely as you age into your fifties you will need reading glasses, just like normal people. Most eye prescriptions are treatable with Lasik eye surgery; however you will need to be assessed for your suitability by a fully qualified Lasik eye doctor..
Lasik eye surgery does not mean that you will never need glasses again. Like your peers as they age into the fifties and require reading glasses you too unlikely to need glasses.
As is also common with most surgeries there is always the potential for infection to set in, but incidences are low. For a few days after the procedure there may be a little bit of mild discomfort.
As each patient will react differently it is possible that a slight under or over correction may be done during laser treatment. Some over and under corrections are treatable others are not. Many Lasik eye surgeons will offer a guarantee if there needs to be any treatment in the first two years that treatment will be free.
Lasik eye surgery can produce a freedom from glasses and contact lenses for many people.
It can be cheaper than most contact lenses and glasses for yearly prescriptions. Lasik Procedures If you have vision problems and you should definitely check out Lasik. You are forced to get expensive exams and glasses or contacts every year.
