Medical Treatments for Tinnitus – Options

In past years, tinnitus had no effective medical treatment. Today, however, biofeedback, stress and anxiety reduction, surgery, and prescription medicine can all be used to reduce or eliminate the effects of tinnitus. Doctors don’t believe anymore that tinnitus is mainly a psychological problem or that it is caused by problems in the ear that can’t be remedied. While there is no cure for tinnitus, doctors have found many treatments that have proven effective with different patients.

Tinnitus can be treated with anti-depressant drugs such as Xanax. Favorable results such as a forty percent reduction in symptoms and a significant quieting of the sound were reported by seventy-six percent of those who used this drug.

Lidocaine Injections – A scientific experiment using this medication seemed to show that more than three-quarters of the patients involved experienced total or partial alleviation of their tinnitus.

Antihistamines – This medicine is used for allergies and might also reduce the noise caused by tinnitus in a lot of people.

Some heart medicines work by increasing the blood flow throughout the body; this has been shown to reduce the effects of tinnitus.

Anticonvulsant Medicine – This medicine is usually for the prevention of seizures but for some people it might decrease tinnitus symptoms.

Try and find out what is causing your tinnitus before you look to treat it medically. Tinnitus can be caused by a number of things.

Other solutions to medical treatments for tinnitus are homeopathic remedies and things you can do to at home to make the severity of your tinnitus more manageable.Some people that are afflicted with this condition do not wish to take certain prescribed medical treatments or medications to help their sicuation. Homeopathic methods may be an answer in these cases.
