Pedal Hyperhidrosis

The proper technical term for sweating of the feet Pedal hyperhidrosis, which simply means excessive sweating of the feet. Normally it occurs with Palmar hyperhidrosis, also known as sweating of the palms of the hand.

However, on the other hand, if the sweat occurs only from the feet, then it is called as solitary foot sweating. Though feet sweating is not that complicated if compared with hand sweating, but the after-effects are certainly not good. It normally results into bad odor from your feet. For instance, if you are suffering from Pedal hyperhidrosis and happen to remove your shoes at a social occasion, then it would be a real embarrassing situation for you, as your socks and feet will stink.

The evil smell of your feet resulting from heavy feet sweating is mainly a product of bacteria that interact with the sweat. This condition affects both men and women. Thus, it is a good idea for ladies to wear shoes that allow air to pass through.

One of the main risks of excessive foot sweating is slippage of the shoes that could cause you to fall. In many cases, footwear was found to be the main reason behind excessive sweating of the feet. Allowing the feet to breathe is crucial for the release of excess fluids secreted by the sweat glands through the pores of the skin. Dry feet are not smelly, so keep them dry and avoid the problem entirely.

Symptoms of Feet Sweating:

There are many ways to determine whether you are suffering from Pedal hyperhidrosis or not. One of the prime symptoms is having wet feet even in normal weather conditions. This may produce disgusting odor, when you remove your footwear. Thus, if you are having wet feet frequently, you are suffering from excessive feet sweating.

You might be suffering from pedal hyperhidrosis, if you feel slippery in your own footwear. In addition, if your shoes or sandals start dripping even after wearing them for a short time, then it is advisable to visit a doctor.

Apart from foul odor, excessive feet sweating may even attract fungus infection. In fact, there are chances that the skin might peel off which can be very painful while walking. The sufferer may also get an athletic foot. Hence, it is necessary to treat sweating feet as soon as possible.

Remedies

To keep the situation from worsening, you need to take certain steps. One of these steps is to check the foods that you eat as it will aid greatly in dealing with extreme foot sweating. Foods which are spicy contain more sodium and need to be avoided. Other foods that you need to avoid are asparagus, broccoli, onions (white),beef liver, beef and turkey. All are rich in iodine.

The food that is rich in zinc is very good for a person suffering from excessive feet sweating. But at the same time, prolonged consumption of zinc may lead to health problems. Hence, keep a check on the intake of zinc containing foodstuffs. Apart from this, sage tea can be consumed twice a day to reduce sweat.

One more remedy is to soak the feet in a tub of “tea water”; a couple of bags in a small tub will do for about a half hour. Adding some tannin acid in the tub helps reduce swelling in feet and is also soothing.

Soaking the feet in a tub of water filled with a few tea bags helps too. About a half an hour a night should suffice. To reduce swelling and be more soothing, add some tannin acid to the water.

Make sure the feet are completely dry after bathing/showering. If you need to, use a blow dryer.Talcum powder on the feet will absorb sweat ad help avoid the odor. Avoid beverages rich in caffeine and reduce smoking and alcohol habits; both are known to be causes excessive foot sweating.

How To Reduce Excessive Feet Sweating?

You may stop or hinder any disorder, if you take and enact measures for that purpose. Excessive sweating is no different. If you are a sufferer of Pedal hyperhidrosis, then following are some things you can do to ease the condition:

1. It is vital to wash your feet daily with a cleansing anti-bacterial soap. It is very important, as anti-bacterial soaps have a quality that soothes and dries the feet completely and entirely. These soaps even help in cleansing the spaces between the toes.

2. If you cannot dry the feet completely with a towel, then make use of a hair dryer. This will remove the dampness from your feet.

3. Always try to wear 100% cotton socks; they absorb sweat. Cotton socks will not only absorb the moisture, but will also keep the feet dry.

These are only a few of the methods used to treat excessive feet sweating. If the situation is persistent, then it is advisable to see a doctor. The physician may initially prescribe a strong antiperspirant for you, which needs to be applied each night. This will decrease the sweating that occurs in the feet. On the other hand, you may not able to use antiperspirant daily, as it can irritate the skin.

Another scientific way to treat this condition is Botox injections. These injections block the signals from the nerves that enable the working of sweat glands in the feet. This drastically reduces excessive sweating in feet.

Additionally, there are a lot of other ways to help reducing foot sweating. Taking a pill, rubbing on lotions, electrical contraptions, and acupuncture are a few of them. Surgery, however, is the quickest, most effective treatment to cure excessive foot sweating, but it is cost inhibitive and carries some risk.
