Some students have heard, from professors, horror stories about travel therapist being sent to the most miserable locations. However, the truth is that all travel therapists can control where they go .

Whether you are in school to become a physical therapist, occupational therapist, or any other kind of therapist there is likely going to be some opportunities for you to take those newly acquired skills on the road. You do need some experience in the field before this is an option, but your internship may qualify you so that you can register with a company that specializes in placing therapist on travel assignments.

That being said, lets address the rumors that you have likely heard about travel therapy jobs. As a traveling therapist, you will first fill find a traveling therapist company that you want to work with and then fill out an application with them. The company will gather all of your paperwork from you and come to understand you and what you are looking for. They will ask a lot of questions, so be ready for that, but they do it so that they can better understand what you are looking for.

Along with that initial process, they will ask you some specifics about where you would like to go and where you would rather not go on an assignment. Do you have a preference about how far you travel? Would you rather stay away from Louisiana during hurricane season? Do you have some dream locations that would be more like a vacation than work for you? You tell the company all of this so that they only send jobs that you would be interested in to you for your review.

Lastly, remember that you are in control and you do not have to take a job that you do not want. There is a lot of demand out there for traveling physical and occupational therapist with very competitive salaries and other compensation, such as travel expense reimbursements and home accommodations. You will be able to be a bit choosy and still get great pay and benefits along with the travel.
