Testing For Pregnancy? Do It Wisely!

It is a difficult time during that time of limbo when you think you are pregnant but you are unable to take a test because of the timing. All home kits have a recommended time of when to use them and for good reasons. When you take a test will affect the accuracy and lets face it you need to be accurate about something like this.

The two types are blood test and urine tests. Both of these look for the same hormone called ‘human chorionic gonadotropin’ or HCG that is only present in women when they are pregnant. Blood tests can detect HCG sooner then urine tests, with blood tests being six to eight days after ovulation and urine tests usually are about fourteen days after ovulation.

Most home tests are urine tests. They are usually easy to read, convenient and cheap and perhaps best of all they are private. You can react to the news however you wish to. Most tests suggest using the urine that is passed when you wake up in the morning as the HCG is easier to detect. If you get a positive result go and visit your doctor for a confirmation blood test and pelvic examination.

Timing when taking a pregnancy test is vital because if you are taking it too soon in the pregnancy there might not be enough of the HCG in the urine to give you a positive result. Home tests tend to be about ninety per cent accurate, if you hold out and test the day after the missed period. If you believe you are pregnant but the results are negative wait another week and then take it again (unless that missed period arrives in which case you know you are not). If you get a negative result again and still feel some doubt you need to go to your doctor and get a blood test. Remember one thing, a urine test can give a false negative reading i.e. it says you are not pregnant and you are, but it cannot give a false postive i.e it says you are pregnant but you are not.

Pregnancy is an amazing thing to go through whether you sail through glowing all the way, or are bent for the most part over a toilet vomiting! The best thing you can do for your baby and yourself is to look after yourself. Get advice from your physician and do some reading so that you and your baby gets exactly what is needed.
