The Story of My Face Surgery
Spring of 2000 I went on a cruise with my daughter. When I developed the pictures, I noticed my upper eye lids were very droopy. So I set up a consultation with a plastic surgeon and made arrangements to have surgery.
During the consultation with the plastic surgeon he also noticed I had lines across my forehead and suggested a brow lift. I also had a bump on my nose and puffy lower eyelids he wanted to fix. Great. Sign me up. The before photos were taken and I made a down payment.
When I got to the hospital they asked me if I wanted to spend the night for another $600+. I agreed to that too, boy I was easy. But it was the best decision I made all day. The surgery took maybe 4 hours. I don’t remember too much of that night. My family came to see me. My nephew was just a baby, but my sister-in-law said I scarred him for life.
I must of looked pretty bad. My eyes were swollen shut and my nose and forehead were bandaged. The nurse had to help me around 4am to go to the bathroom, because they put an ointment on my eyelids and it blurred my vision. There was no way I could of taken care of myself if I had gone home.
Luckily I didn’t scare my sister-in-law off for life because she took my home the next day and put me to bed. My daughter came by for two days to feed me and bring me ice for my eyes. I had very little bruising because I used a lot of ointment and ice. On the 5th day I was ready to shower, but couldn’t because I had to wait 10 days for the stitches to be removed. I was just as happy to take a bath.
The 10th day finally came to get my stitches removed. The surgeon never told me they would have to be removed. The worst part of my breast surgery was taking the stitches out of my chest. They had to hold me down, it was very painful. This wasn’t as bad, but still hurt. You can still see the scars at the corner of my eyes.
The BIG thing they did not tell me prior to my surgery was that I would have a surgical scar from ear to ear and that they pulled my face away and my scalp (don’t know why). To this day, a little over 8 years, I still am numb on the top of my head. Guess you could literally call me a numbskull. Also with this scar are the remnants of the knots from the stitches that I think I will have for life. These knots can hurt from time to time and I’ve lost some hair around the scar site.
On my follow-up appointment with my surgeon, he wanted to know if I was glad I had the surgeries. The pain was still to fresh for me to say yes, but he assured me I would be happy for years. 8 years later I have droopy eyelids again, but the other procedures are still good..no wrinkles. Recently I had Restylane around my mouth, but thats entirely another story.
