When To Take A Pregnancy Test
It is not easy in that period of time when you are possibly pregnant but have not confirmed it. There is timing involved when taking a pregnancy test, you cannot just go to the pharmacy and take one whenever you suspect. There are two types of tests and these each have different times that you can use them.
The two types are blood test and urine tests. Both of these look for the same hormone called ‘human chorionic gonadotropin’ or HCG that is only present in women when they are pregnant. Blood tests can detect HCG sooner then urine tests, with blood tests being six to eight days after ovulation and urine tests usually are about fourteen days after ovulation.
The test you get from a pharmacy to use at home tests your urine. The great thing about these tests is that you can do it in the comfort of your own home, you can take your time over it, react how you want and maybe have a friend or partnter there to laugh or cry with you after the shock has passed. These tests are fairly easy to read and are cheap to get so if you need to do another to make sure, you can! When you take the test it is using your first urine of the day and if the results are positive you should then make an appointment with your doctor to get a blood test to confirm. He or she will also give you a pelvic examination.
Take the test one day after your missed period. Any sooner and the test may have difficulty finding the HCG in the urine. The tests are not 100 per cent accurate, more around 90 per cent. So it may say you are not pregnant, when you are. If you are getting a negative but think you are pregnant take the test again in seven days. If you are still feeling doubt and still have not had that missed period, visit your doctor.
Pregnancy is an amazing thing to go through whether you sail through glowing all the way, or are bent for the most part over a toilet vomiting! The best thing you can do for your baby and yourself is to look after yourself. Get advice from your physician and do some reading so that you and your baby gets exactly what is needed.
