You Could Be At Risk If You Have Gum Disease

It is always important to take an interest in your personal health consistently throughout the year. When you simply brush and floss on a daily basis you are fighting gum disease and so many health issues.

The disease of the mouth, the gums and jaw bone structures specifically, is known as periodontal disease ” pronounced simply as: per-ee-oh-don-tal disease. Technically Gingivitis and periodontitis are the components of gum disease. The warning signs of gum disease are clear: gums which easily bleed and are red or swollen.

Gum disease may be caused by a build-up of plaque ” the same kind of plaque which can clog your arteries, is a sticky invisible layer where germs form naturally. The plaque contains bacteria which in turn give off toxins. The bacterial toxins irritate and damage the gum and bone supporting your teeth.

Gum disease comes with specific warning signs such as:

You have Bad Breath ” People May turn Away from You When You Speak

When you Bite you notice that Your Teeth do not fit like the used to

Your Gums Easily Bleed when you Brush or Floss

If you have a Partial, It does not fit like it used to

You have a Continual Bad Taste In Your Mouth

Your Gums are Noticeably Red and or May be Swollen

A Change in Your Bite

Some people do not know they have gum disease because they do not show any sign. Periodontal disease is usually painless and easily overlooked. It can be passed from person to person by a simple kiss. But, your heart and lungs can be negatively impacted by gum disease. If you are diabetic or pregnant you can have further health concerns.

As you now know, plaque is the primary agent in gum disease. However here are several other contributors to the disease:

Your Family History

Sicknesses

Smoking

Illness

Hormonal Changes

Shifts in Hormone Levels

A regular trip to your dentist is your ticket to health, and no gum disease. When you do visit your dentist, gum disease and general oral diseases can be easily managed when found early. Gum disease exams include gum measurements and radiographs, and sometimes x-rays. Usually a dentist or hygienist will use a small probe to measure the gap between a tooth and the gum as part of your gum disease examination.

Gum disease can be treated with a Diode Laser, a laser which removes diseased tissues and kills bacteria. Dramatic results are seen as early as the day of the treatment.

Your oral arsenal should always include your toothbrush and floss ” they are the best tools to fighting gum disease. When you use your oral arsenal as a daily practice you immediately reduce the potential of having gum disease in the first place.

In addition to your toothbrush and floss, some individuals have added a rubber tipped stimulator, tongue scraper and interproximal brush to their oral arsenal. Interproximal brushes are the tiny brushes used to clean between teeth.

Gum disease is destructive and affects not only your gums and oral tissues, but also affects your entire body.

You can reverse your gum disease by visiting your dentist for regular cleanings in addition to your daily routine of brushing and flossing. You can reduce your risk, or severity of gum disease by changing your lifestyle:

If you Smoke – Stop

Prescription medications

Do Not Smoke

Exercise Regularly

Links have been found by the CDC which defines health risks and gum disease. Gum disease bacteria, in certain situations, can contribute to severe health problems like heart disease and stroke.
